When it comes to education, it is firmly believed that “Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world” These words are said by one of the great Black leaders Nelson Mandela. This depicts that education is such a universal right that does not set boundaries for anyone. But it is also true that Education opportunities are segregated based on ethnicity.  Hence this article deals with the scholarship opportunities for black students across the globe. 

Following are some of the scholarship opportunities which are specially delegated for the black students. 

1) “Scholar Dollars” Essay Scholarship for Black Students

This scholarship is offered to students who belong to black community. This is designed in a way that it lightens the financial burden on black students  who want to acquire education in college. It is also true that through this scholarship one can be set free of loans. 

Amount offered: This scholarship awards $500 worth one award for academic year 2022-2023. 

Grade Level: High School Seniors, College & Graduate Students

Deadline: August 31st 2022. 


2) Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

 This scholarship is awarded to those black students who have will to lead the world, and have academic excellence. Those institutes and students who are affiliated with Jackie Robinson Foundation are prioritized when offering scholarship. In addition this scholarship also includes career guidance and internship opportunities. 

Amount Offered: Up to $30,000 are offered for period of four years 

Grade level: High School Seniors

Deadline: January 2023. 


3) ETS Presidential Scholarship for HBCU Students

This scholarship is awarded by the ETS and Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Those students who are enrolled at senior school or college levels in Historically Black College or University (HBCU) are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Specifically students who are well-off academically having minimum GPA of 3.5 and are in need of financial assistance are highly encouraged to avail this scholarship at the earliest. 

Amount Offered: Full cost of tuition is waived off through this scholarship

Grade level: Junior or senior college students enrolled in HBCU 

Deadline: Varies 


4) The Fredrick Douglass Bicentennial Scholarship Program

This is such a unique scholarship that it is awarded to one male and one female student who is enrolled in one of HBCU institute. Those students who are highly capable in terms of academic excellence are having high chances of getting this scholarship. Particularly those who are having minimum GPA of 3.5 and depict leadership qualities with sound communication skills are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Amount Offered: $10,000 

Grade level: Senior or college attending students

Deadline: January 2023.


5) AMS Minority Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded by the American Meteorological Society to the minority students, especially black or Afro-Americans. Those students who are in their first year of college or starting their studies in college in the fields of atmospheric sciences, oceanic sciences, or hydrological sciences are eligible for this scholarship. 

Amount Offered: $60,000 over two years. 

Grade level: Senior level school students or college students. 

Deadline: February 2023.


6) American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship

The American Association of Blacks awards 13 annual scholarships for the deserving underrepresented minority students. Those students are doing major in one of the fields of business, technology, engineering, mathematics, or even one of the physical sciences are eligible for this scholarship. This is specially applicable for  minority high school students including African American. 

Amount Offered: Varies with respect to expenses 

Grade Level: Senior high school students 

Deadline: February 2023. 


7) Ron Brown Scholarship

If you are a Black or African American U.S citizen or permanent resident who is currently in high school, this scholarship is for you. This scholarship covers education expenditures for four years of undergraduate. Hence once this scholarship is awarded, every year a fixed amount is set forth for for all and sundry education expenses. 

Amount offered: Multiple awards worth up to $ 10000. 

Grade Level: High School Seniors 

Deadline: January 9, 2023


8) The Gates Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This is a great opportunity for those students who are academically excellent high schools senior minority students with low-income. Those students who are adamant of attaining a highly prestigious institute may join hands with this foundation and avail this scholarship. Expenditures related to education are borne by this scholarship for any institute. 

Amount offeredFull ride which means all expenses 

Grade level: High school Seniors 

Deadline: September 15, 2022 


9) José E. Serrano Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions

This scholarship is awarded by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This is specially offered to those black students who are bright in the STEM education. Additionally those students who are affiliated with Minority serving institutions like Hispanic Serving institutions, Historically Black Colleges and universities, and Tribal colleges and universities are highly encouraged to apply for this scholarship so that education expenditures can be provided. 

Amount offered: Multiple awards up to $ 45000 

Grade level: College Sophomores 

Deadline: December 1, 2022


10) National Black MBA Association Partner Scholarship

This is the scholarship that is offered by National Black MBA Association. Those students who are black, studying in one of the MBA Association partner institutions or even studying business or intended to study business, are highly encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Each year this association offers multiple scholarships to huge numbers of students. Hence an important opportunity is waiting for the worthy black students. 

Amount offered: Multiple awards worth up to $50,000 

Grade level: College & Graduate Students 

Deadline: Varies
